For sale: Fragment of "The Heavenly Host" mural by Violet Oakley

Violet Oakley was commissioned to  paint a mural for the Church of All Angels in New York City. It was completed in 1901. This commission established Oakley as North America's first professional female artist. The mural passed into private hands when the church was demolished in the mid 1980's. 


Oil on canvas mounted on board 24" x 24" depicting the head of an angel with halo playing harp.

Authentication and Valuation

The painting has been authenticated by Ruthann Hubbard from the Capitol Preservation Committee in Harrisburg Pennsalvania, and valued at $12,000 USD by Uno Langmann Gallery, Vancouver, in 2001.
